Italian truffle industry focuses on new regulations and market shifts

Stakeholders in the Italian truffle industry are focusing on regulatory updates and international market shifts. In Basilicata, regional officials are working with truffle harvesters and local administrations to modernize the sector. A key objective is to replace the outdated 1995 regional law with a new regulatory framework that better addresses current industry needs and promotes the local supply chain.

Simultaneously, the University of L'Aquila is hosting an international meeting to address the evolving truffle market. The event brings together researchers from seven European countries to discuss the impact of global geopolitical tensions—noting that Iran has been a major supplier—and the significant effects of climate change on production. The Abruzzo region remains a major player, accounting for approximately 40% of Italy's total truffle harvest.
