Francesca Barra mourns death of father, former Italian MP Francesco Barra

Francesca Barra, the Italian TV journalist and presenter, announced on Instagram that her father, Francesco Michele Barra, died on 15 June 2026 at the age of 78 in Policoro, Basilicata. Barra, who served as a member of the Chamber of Deputies after being elected in 1994, was a well‑known public figure in the region.

In a lengthy post accompanied by a video of them dancing, Barra described the rapid decline that “sucked him away in a few days,” leaving her “with a heart in pieces.” She recalled childhood memories – picking poppy fields, walking through ponds, morning orange juice rituals – and praised his kindness, saying he could “make people feel loved every day." The tribute attracted many supportive comments from followers.

Barra’s message highlighted the personal loss and the impact of her father’s passing on her family, which includes three siblings, eight grandchildren and her husband Claudio Santamaria.
