Italian TV series 'Il giovane Montalbano' premieres 'Capodanno' episode on Rai 1

On 27 July 2026 Rai 1 broadcast the second episode, titled “Capodanno”, of the first season of the Italian pre‑quel series *Il giovane Montalbano*. The story follows a young Salvo Montalbano, played by Michele Riondino, who investigates a murder at the hotel where he is staying and negotiates the rental of the famed Marinella house. Supporting characters include the forensic doctor Pasquano, the agents Carmine Fazio, Agatino Catarella and others, while Montalbano also meets his future girlfriend Mery.

The episode adapts Andrea Camilleri’s short stories “Capodanno” and “Meglio lo scuro”, was directed by Gianluca Tavarelli and filmed at several Sicilian locations – the seaside village of Apunt Secca (Marinella’s house), the Duomo square in Ragusa Ibla, Modica, Sampieri, Donnalucata and the municipal palace in Scicli (used as the police station).
