Italian television remains Europe's most watched channel
A new Global Media Intelligence Report confirms that Italian television is the most watched in Europe. Viewers in Italy spend more than 3½ hours a day watching TV, leading the continent in the use of television for entertainment shows, news bulletins and political talk programmes. The habit is linked to a strong cultural affinity for prime‑time shows and long‑running talk shows such as Porta a Porta, Otto e mezzo, DiMartedì and Quarta Repubblica.
The report also outlines the 2026 programming line‑up announced in early July. Rai, Mediaset and La7 will continue to dominate the schedule with flagship programmes like Tale e Quale Show, Ballando con le Stelle, The Voice Senior, Affari Tuoi, Domenica In and Il Grande Fratello Vip, as well as long‑standing hosts such as Amadeus, Paolo Bonolis and Maria De Filippi. The data underscores TV’s role as the primary arena for public debate and political opinion formation in Italy.
