Italian unions call for urgent intervention regarding worker welfare

Labor unions in Italy are raising alarms over economic instability and job insecurity facing workers in different sectors.

In Benevento, the FP CGIL union has requested an urgent meeting with the Provincial President regarding the SAMTE S. r. l. plant and the Casalduni site. The site has been inactive since a 2018 fire. Despite regional funding and promises to begin construction on a biodigester by September, no work has commenced. Unions are seeking clarity on the delays and guarantees for personnel amid rumors of an indefinite halt to procedures.

Separately, Filctem CGIL and Femca CISL have issued an appeal regarding the Saxa Group. Unions report a social emergency caused by delays in activating extraordinary wage guarantee funds (CIGS). They state that hundreds of families are currently without financial support, emphasizing that even minor bureaucratic delays significantly impact the ability of workers to meet daily living expenses.
