Italian unions demand stronger action against farm labor exploitation and unsafe transport

The CISL union in Trentino warned that isolated cases of caporalato in agriculture harm workers’ dignity and damage reputable farms. It called for effective inspections combined with preventive measures involving institutions, companies, and the whole supply chain to protect seasonal labour and avoid illegal intermediaries.

Following a severe road crash in Bondeno that injured seven farm workers transported in a private van, the FLAI‑CGIL federation stressed that the accident reflects systemic flaws in agricultural worker transport. It urged political commitment to expand safe‑travel models such as the Agribus service, impose stricter sanctions, and boost coordinated inspections to eradicate exploitation and protect lives.
