Italian unions protest proposed school staff cuts
Multiple Italian labor unions, including Cisl Scuola, Uil Scuola Rua, Snals Confsal, and Anief, have launched a mobilization to protest staff reductions in the education sector. The unions are demanding the removal of measures included in the budget law that would cut positions for both teaching and administrative staff.
The protests are scheduled to begin with a sit-in in Rome on November 11, followed by union assemblies in schools across Italy on November 16. Additionally, the Flc Cgil has announced a demonstration for November 20.
Union leaders argue that reducing personnel will increase workloads, exacerbate job insecurity, and harm the national education system, particularly in socio-economically disadvantaged areas. They specifically contest the proposal to reduce staff in response to demographic declines.
