Italian unions strike after driver assault and factory dismissal

In Genoa, an AMT driver was attacked in the Cornigliano depot. The incident prompted several unions – Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl, Uiltrasporti and Faisa Cisal – to call an evening strike starting at 22:00 on 10 July, continuing until the end of service. A separate strike by Ugl Fna is scheduled for 11 July from 11:30 to 15:30. The unions demand an urgent security committee with police, local authorities and the company, stating: “La sicurezza del personale e degli utenti è un diritto non negoziabile.”

In Casale Monferrato, the metal‑working firm Epta IARP dismissed a worker accused of throwing a hammer at a colleague. Fiom, CGIL and Uilm organized a protest and strike at the plant gates. Fim Cisl distanced itself from the action, criticizing it as politically motivated and saying, “non è accettabile che chi esprime valutazioni diverse venga delegittimato.” The union called for respectful representation and genuine protection of workers rather than media‑focused campaigns.
