Italian universities expand medical and nursing school capacity

Major Italian universities are increasing medical and nursing school enrollment to address healthcare professional shortages.

University of Milano-Bicocca is expanding its capacity for the 2026/2027 academic year. The Italian-language Medicine and Surgery course in Monza will increase from 180 to 200 seats, while the international Medicine and Surgery course in Bergamo will rise from 48 to 60 seats. The university recently ranked first in the Censis rankings for its single-cycle master's degree in Medicine and Surgery.

University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Unimore) is implementing a 32% increase in its Medicine and Surgery program, raising the total to 305 seats. Unimore also reported a 10.5% increase in nursing program capacity, with the Modena campus expanding from 162 to 192 seats. Unimore recently ranked second nationally among state universities in the Censis indicator for career progression in medicine.
