Italian universities hold events to mark 10th anniversary of Giulio Regeni’s disappearance
On 13 May, the Politecnico di Milano hosted a commemorative event in Cremona to mark the ten‑year anniversary of Giulio Regeni’s disappearance. The program featured a video message from Regeni’s parents, a screening of the documentary “Giulio Regeni – Tutto il male del mondo”, and a panel discussion titled “Non c’è ricerca senza libertà” with the Regeni family’s lawyer, scholars and journalists.
The gathering was part of the national “Le Università per Giulio Regeni” initiative, promoted by Senator‑life scientist Elena Cattaneo and involving 76 Italian universities. A related round‑table on press and academic freedom was also publicised, underscoring the broader effort to raise awareness of human‑rights and research‑freedom issues across the academic community.
