Italian universities host events on peace and political education
Several Italian academic and civic institutions have announced events focused on peace, human rights, and political education for the late October 2026 period.
The University of Pisa will inaugurate its 2026/2027 academic year on October 27, centering on the theme of peace. This follows a 2025 statute amendment that made it the first Italian university to formalize a commitment to peace. The ceremony will feature Alberto Cairo, president of NOVE Caring Humans, and Susanna Fioretti, both of whom work in Afghanistan on disability inclusion and women's rights. The event will conclude with a musical performance using the Violin of the Sea Orchestra, an instrument crafted from wood from migrant boats.
The University of Parma will host a presentation for the book ‘Per una pace possibile’ (For a possible peace) on October 28. Authors Adolfo Ceretti and Roberto Cornelli will discuss responsibility, justice, and reparation in the context of modern warfare.
In Giarre, the 14th Biagio Andò Prize will be presented on October 24. Organized by the Fondazione Nuovo Mezzogiorno, the 2026 edition focuses on ‘Educating in politics to strengthen institutions’ and will include a series of meetings throughout November regarding the Italian Constitution.
