Italian universities introduce specialized communication programs

Italian universities are introducing specialized communication curricula. The University of Palermo has proclaimed its first three graduates from a master's degree program in Pedagogical Sciences for Inclusive Communication mediated by Italian Sign Language (LIS). This unique program, a collaboration between the University of Palermo, Ca' Foscari University of Venice, and Roma Tre University, aims to train professionals capable of addressing the educational needs of deaf students through specialized pedagogical and linguistic expertise.

Separately, the University of Siena is launching a Multispecies Communication Laboratory as part of its Master's degree in Communication Strategies and Techniques. Starting in the 2026-2027 academic year, this mandatory course will study the signals exchanged between plants, animals, and ecosystems, as well as how humans observe and interpret them. The initiative marks the first teaching of its kind in an Italian communication degree program.
