Italian universities secure significant research funding
Italian universities have secured significant research funding through regional and national programs. The University of Pisa has had all 12 of its ‘Seal of Excellence’ projects funded by the Tuscany Region. Each project will receive approximately 130,000 euros over two years, supporting research across six departments in fields such as biomaterials, quantum technologies, mathematics, and prehistory.
These projects, which previously met European evaluation standards but lacked available EU funds, cover diverse topics including bone regeneration, neurodegenerative diseases, and the neolithization of Europe.
Separately, the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Unimore) ranked seventh in Italy for the 2026 Synergy Grant. The university was awarded nearly one million euros for two major projects focused on advanced therapies and sustainable mobility. The funding supports collaborations involving various national centers and industrial partners like Pirelli and Autostrade per l'Italia.
