Italian vintage motorcycles Vespa and Aprilia see collector interest

Classic Italian motorcycles, specifically the Vespa 125 U and the Aprilia Pegaso 650, are seeing renewed interest in the vintage market.

Originally launched in 1952, the Vespa 125 U was intended as a budget-friendly version of the standard model. Due to its stripped-down features and perceived lower quality at the time, it was a commercial failure with only 6,000 units produced. However, its rarity has made it highly sought after today. Prices for a model requiring restoration range from €6,000 to €10,000, while well-restored or original, documented specimens can command between €20,000 and €40,000.

In the dual-sport category, the Aprilia Pegaso 650, introduced in 1992, remains a notable model for its engineering. Known for its versatility on both road and off-road terrain, the Pegaso 650 featured a unique pressed-steel single-beam frame that doubled as an oil tank. Equipped with Kayaba front forks and a Marzocchi rear shock, the motorcycle is currently available on the used market for approximately €2,000, offering an affordable entry point for enthusiasts of high-quality Italian engineering.
