Italian viticulture: Growth in Valdobbiadene and harvests in Castiglione Olona
In the Valdobbiadene region, the winery Le Colture has marked forty years of growth. Founded in 1983 by Cesare Ruggeri, the family business has expanded from eight hectares of vineyards producing wine in large jugs to forty hectares. The company now produces approximately 800,000 bottles annually, primarily sparkling wines made from 100% Glera grapes. While 60% of sales are within Italy, the winery exports significantly to Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
In Castiglione Olona, the annual grape harvest at the Collegiata vineyard has also taken place. Managed by Francesco and Franca Nutricati for fifteen years, the vineyard produces Merlot. Due to a particularly hot summer, the harvest was moved forward, though producers express optimism regarding the quality of the resulting wine.
