Italian volleyball leagues reject FIVB winter schedule shift
Presidents of Italy's top volleyball organisations – the Serie A men’s league and the Volley Femminile women’s league – have issued a joint statement opposing the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB)'s proposal to move international competitions into the December‑February period. They argue that inserting world‑level events during the domestic season would disrupt the regularity of the national championships, undermine the economic value built by clubs, impair technical and physical preparation of athletes, increase injury risk and overload an already congested calendar.
The leagues demand that the FIVB abandon any plan to place international tournaments in the middle of the club season and warn that decisions jeopardising the national leagues will carry full responsibility for the resulting harms. They stress that the domestic championships are the cornerstone of Italian volleyball, supporting club investment, employment, fan engagement and the sport’s future worldwide.
