Italian water firms Siciliacque and Acea highlight financing moves

Siciliacque, the regional over‑water supply company in Sicily, issued a response after a hearing of the ARS Environment Commission. The firm said it holds more than €35 million in credits – €16.3 million owed by the Agrigento operator Aica and €19 million for water supplies to former municipalities – and that a €40 million capital increase and shareholder financing in 2024 were essential to guarantee service continuity. Siciliacque emphasised it does not manage local distribution and urged that responsibility not be wrongly attributed to it.

Acea, Italy’s leading water and utilities group, successfully completed the placement of a €500 million Blue Bond, the first public Italian issuance of this format. Investor demand exceeded three times the amount offered. The proceeds will be earmarked for projects that reduce network losses, boost the resilience of water infrastructure, and improve wastewater treatment and reuse, aligning with UN Sustainable Development Goals 6 and 13.
