Italian water quality concerns prompt consumer protest and PFAS remediation

Consumer association A. Ba. Co. in Viterbo criticised a proposal that Talete Spa, the regional water service provider, should carry out its own drinking‑water quality tests. The group warned that letting the operator monitor its own service creates a conflict of interest, likening it to “asking the innkeeper if his wine is good.” It called for an independent popular observatory of citizens and technicians, a suspension of water‑bill payments until safety is guaranteed, and urged local authorities to take concrete action. The association declared, “The patience of citizens is over.”

In Castelnuovo Scrivia, Gestione Acqua S.p.A. discovered PFAS levels exceeding upcoming regulatory limits. The company responded by installing active‑carbon filtration units at two wells and additional network upgrades. Follow‑up tests showed the PFAS concentrations fell well below legal thresholds. Gestione Acqua said the work “confirms its preventive approach” and pledged continued monitoring in cooperation with municipal authorities, regional health agencies and environmental bodies.
