Italian nature projects and tours engage students and communities

The Pro Loco of Venegono Superiore organized a guided excursion to the Cave di Molera in the Valle del Lanza on Sunday, 5 July. The four‑hour walk, starting at 10 a.m. from the Molino del Trotto parking area, was led by volunteer ecological guards who explained the site’s geology and history. Participation cost €7 for adults and €5 for children, with a combined visit‑and‑aperitif option for €14 and a limit of 30 spots.

In Portocannone, elementary pupils joined volunteers from Ambiente Basso Molise for a series of hands‑on labs on mineralogy, malacology and plastic‑pollution mitigation, linking the activities to the UN Agenda 2030 sustainable‑development goals.

At the Oasi “Zone Umide Beneventane” in Sant’Angelo a Piesco, about thirty Erasmus+ students from seven European countries visited the Lipu Centre, toured the Calore river wetlands and learned about local flora, fauna and water‑resource management from Italian volunteers.

The Regional Natural Park of Litorale di Ugento was selected as a partner in the EU‑funded Wetland4Change project (Interreg Euro‑MED). Starting in July 2026, the park will implement methods for assessing coastal‑wetland carbon sequestration and flood‑regulation services, aiming to improve climate‑adaptation planning in the Mediterranean region.
