Italian wheelchair fencing team holds training camp in San Giovanni Rotondo

The Italian wheelchair fencing national team is currently conducting a collective training camp in San Giovanni Rotondo to prepare for the upcoming Paralympic European Championships in Cardiff. The training session, which began on August 24, aims to ensure athletes are in peak condition for the continental competition scheduled from October 6 to 11.

The squad is led by technical commissioners Alessandro Paroli (foil), Antongiulio Stella (sabre), and Michele Tarantini (épée). The training camp includes a diverse group of athletes and support staff, including physical trainers, medical personnel, and physiotherapists. The initiative also features Turkish sparring guest Hakan Akkaya.

Supported by the federal council led by Luigi Mazzone, the camp aligns with efforts to promote inclusive fencing and better integrate the Olympic and Paralympic sectors through programs such as ‘Scherma, sport senza limiti’ (Fencing, sport without limits).
