Italian wine exports fall 6.2% in first half of the year
Italian wine exports experienced a decline in the first half of the year, falling 6.2% in value to 3.6 billion euros. According to data from the Unione Italiana Vini (UIV) and Istat, export volumes also dropped by 4%, while the average export price decreased by 2.3%. This downturn is attributed to structural shifts in consumption, reduced purchasing power, and geopolitical tensions affecting global demand.
Major markets showed significant contractions, including the United States, where value fell by 14.1% to 849 million euros, Germany (down 6.8%), and the United Kingdom (down 6.6%). Russia was a notable exception, recording a 15.7% increase.
In the Veneto region, the wine sector specifically saw an 8.4% decline. However, overall regional exports grew by 3.2% in the second quarter, reaching 20.9 billion euros. While wine exports to China fell by 6.2%, Veneto's exports to the Mercosur bloc grew by 13% during the first half of the year, with a 19% acceleration in the second quarter.
