Italian wine exports to the US show signs of recovery
Italian wine exports to the United States showed a recent positive trend in July, with shipments increasing by 9.5% in value and 1.3% in volume. This follows a period of decline and suggests a potential end to price cuts previously used by producers to offset tariff impacts. The average price of Italian wines also rose by 8% during this period.
Despite the July rebound, the overall trend for the first seven months of the year remains negative, down 11% compared to the previous period. Regional performance within Italy has been inconsistent; while some areas heavily exposed to the US market have struggled, the Piedmont region saw a 2.4% increase during the first half of the year.
Industry experts remain cautious, noting that US consumer demand has not yet fully recovered. Ongoing risks for European producers include potential new tariffs resulting from overcapacity investigations and inflationary pressures affecting consumer purchasing power.
