Italian women's coach Andrea Soncin heads to USA to meet NWSL players

Italian women's national team head coach Andrea Soncin and his staff are traveling to the United States to meet the four Italian players competing in the National Women's Soccer League: Cristiana Girelli, Lisa Boattin, Lucia Di Guglielmo and Sofia Cantore. Soncin said the visit is a "crucial step" for the program, allowing the federation to observe the clubs, exchange methodological approaches and strengthen player‑centered development ahead of the 2027 World Cup qualifying play‑offs in Brazil.

The trip will also serve to deepen ties with high‑level clubs, examine fast‑transition and vertical styles of play, and refine technical and human‑development practices. After the United States, Soncin will turn his focus to the Serie A Women’s Cup and the other European leagues where Italian players compete, aiming to perfect details that could decide the upcoming play‑off matches for World Cup qualification.
