Italy industrial strikes erupt over Ericsson and Electrolux layoffs
Multiple industrial disputes and strikes are unfolding across Italy as workers protest mass layoffs and restructuring plans by major multinational corporations.
In Genoa, 131 Ericsson employees are protesting planned layoffs. The mobilization included a strike and a demonstration at the Genoa International Boat Show. Local authorities and unions are seeking guarantees for the workers' future, with a national meeting scheduled for October 5 at the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (Mimit) involving Minister Adolfo Urso.
Electrolux is facing significant labor unrest regarding a restructuring plan that involves approximately 1,450 redundancies nationwide. Specific sites, including Forlì and Cerreto d’Esi, are heavily impacted. Workers in Cerreto d’Esi are protesting the potential closure of their plant and the transfer of production to Poland. A strike and a delegation to meet with Minister Urso are planned for October 5.
Additionally, workers at the Biancoforno plant in Fornacette are organizing a strike to demand the reinstatement of a long-term employee and to protest working conditions, including irregular scheduling via WhatsApp and prolonged precarious employment.
