Italian workers protest unsafe heat in libraries and retail stores

In Livorno, staff employed by cooperatives to run municipal libraries and museums have declared a state of agitation, citing dangerously high temperatures and humidity in the workplaces. The union USB demanded immediate cooling measures, the creation of a discussion table with the cooperatives and the municipality, and raised concerns over salary cuts linked to a new national contract and the under‑classification of part of the staff.

In Viterbo, eight employees of the Conbipel retail outlet on via Garbini announced an eight‑hour strike organized by the union UIL‑Tucs. They reported malfunctioning air‑conditioning that makes the underground shop unbearably hot, threatening health and safety, especially for workers with an average age of about 50. The union called for prompt corrective action to restore safe working conditions.
