Tuscany to offer 50% train subscription discount in October

The Tuscany Regional Government has approved a 50% discount on monthly railway subscriptions for October. This extraordinary, one-time measure is intended to compensate commuters for the significant disruptions experienced in July during essential infrastructure work to replace the Ponte al Pino railway bridge in Florence.

The initiative will be funded by 1.5 million euros recovered from penalties applied to Trenitalia. Regional President Eugenio Giani and Transport Councilor Filippo Boni emphasized that these funds are being returned directly to the users who suffered the most from the service interruptions, rather than burdening the regional budget.

While the Valdarno Direttissima Commuter Committee welcomed the decision as a “concrete and just” measure, they stressed that the discount does not replace the ongoing need for structural improvements in service reliability, punctuality, and regularity.

In separate regional news, labor negotiations for Italo NTV remain stalled after 19 months, with the FAST Confsal union seeking wage adjustments and better working conditions to align with national mobility contracts.
