Italian agriculture focuses on water management and climate resilience

Various Italian regional initiatives and forums are addressing critical challenges in the agricultural sector, with a primary focus on water scarcity and climate adaptation.

In Calabria, the Agriworld Expo will be held at the University of Calabria on October 8-9, 2026. The forum, themed ‘Terre Assetate’, focuses on water resource management, precision agriculture, and innovative irrigation systems to combat scarcity in the Mediterranean basin. The event is supported by the Regional Agency for the Development of Calabrian Agriculture (ARSAC).

In Piedmont, a new regional call for ‘Irrigation Investments’ has been launched, providing up to 3 million euros to support farmers in improving irrigation efficiency, seasonal water storage, and the use of treated water.

Other regional developments include the TAGsTwo project, a Greece-Italy collaboration involving the Gal Serre Calabresi to share best practices in sustainable agro-food innovation. In Molise, the ‘Conversazioni della Terra’ meeting in Casacalenda highlighted the urgent need for a production paradigm shift to protect biodiversity and water resources against climate change. Additionally, the Southwest Forestry University from China is collaborating with the University of Foggia to enhance research in forest management and biodiversity within the Gargano National Park.
