Italy advances solar energy through new plant and school installations
Various solar energy projects are advancing across Italy, ranging from large-scale ground installations to rooftop systems on public buildings.
In San Gottardo, construction has begun on the Helios 2 photovoltaic plant. The project, featuring 3,480 panels with a 2.0358 MW capacity, faced legal challenges after the Municipality of Udine opposed its location near residential areas and within the Parco del Torre. However, the Council of State ultimately ruled in favor of the company, allowing work to proceed.
In Grosseto, the Province has activated a new photovoltaic system on the roof of the Leopoldo II di Lorena hospitality school. Funded by PNRR resources, the 112-panel installation produced 16.3 kWh in its first semester, covering the school's needs and contributing 4.8 kWh back to the grid. This is the first of five planned provincial public building upgrades.
Additionally, in Bagno a Ripoli, the Marconi primary school in Grassina has inaugurated a new photovoltaic system for its canteen. Supported by a 75,000 euro grant from the Tuscany Region, the installation aims to make the school energy self-sufficient and serves as a model for utilizing renewable energy on public infrastructure without impacting the landscape.
