Italy Advances Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (PUMS)
The Italian Ministry of Transport has released an interim report analysing the status of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (PUMS) in 50 Italian cities and metropolitan areas designated as EU "urban nodes". The report, prepared with RAM Logistica Infrastrutture e Trasporti and related to the EU Regulation 2024/1679 on TEN‑T networks, outlines the requirement for all nodes to adopt compliant PUMS by the end of 2027 and details monitoring obligations to the European Commission.
Separately, the Province of Lodi has drafted its own PUMS, describing a ten‑year strategic framework that focuses on demand‑management, integration with land‑use planning, and targeted actions to improve road safety, environmental performance and economic efficiency. Both initiatives reflect Italy’s effort to align local transport planning with new European standards and to secure future EU funding for sustainable mobility projects.
