Italy calls for improved protections for psoriasis patients
During a press conference at the Italian Chamber of Deputies, officials and patient advocates highlighted the urgent need for expanded healthcare protections for those suffering from psoriasis. The event served as an institutional precursor to World Psoriasis Day on October 29.
Luciano Ciocchetti, Vice President of the XII Social Affairs Commission, emphasized that psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune disease that can profoundly impact quality of life, particularly in its severe forms. He called for increased institutional attention and a dialogue between the scientific community and patient representatives to address unmet care needs.
Valeria Corazza, president of Apiafco, noted that over 137,000 Italians living with severe forms of the disease currently lack adequate healthcare coverage and assistance pathways, specifically regarding exemption codes.
