Italy and ASELSAN to participate in AFRIDEX 2026 in Lagos

Italy and the Turkish defense company ASELSAN have confirmed their participation in the inaugural Africa International Defence Exhibition (AFRIDEX) scheduled for October 26–29, 2026, in Lagos, Nigeria.

Italy will be represented by an official delegation and the aerospace company Leonardo, which is currently engaged in significant defense cooperation with Nigeria. The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) recently took delivery of three Leonardo AW-109 Trekker B helicopters, part of a 10-helicopter acquisition. Additionally, Nigeria is acquiring 24 M-346 aircraft from Leonardo. Discussions regarding these programs include long-term maintenance support for at least 25 years and the potential establishment of a Leonardo maintenance hub within Nigeria to strengthen local technical capabilities.

ASELSAN aims to use the exhibition to expand its African presence, building on its existing West African operational base in Abuja. The company intends to showcase its portfolio in air defense, electronic warfare, and precision-guided munitions. ASELSAN’s engagement follows recent high-profile interactions in South Africa and reflects growing defense ties between Türkiye and Nigeria.
