Italy and Azerbaijan aim for €10 billion in bilateral trade

Italy and Azerbaijan have announced plans to expand their economic partnership beyond the energy sector, targeting a bilateral trade volume exceeding €10 billion. This follows a two-day institutional mission in Rome involving Italian Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy Adolfo Urso and Azerbaijani Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov.

During the visit, which included a forum organized by Confindustria, the two nations signed a joint declaration regarding critical raw materials. The cooperation aims to transition from a relationship primarily focused on energy—supported by the TAP pipeline and SOCAR—to a more diversified strategic partnership involving technology, innovation, artificial intelligence, and industrial engineering.

Italy currently serves as the primary market for Azerbaijani exports, accounting for approximately 40% of those exports in the first seven months of 2026. Bilateral trade reached €8 billion in 2025. As part of the mission, the Azerbaijani delegation met with several major Italian companies, including Eni, Snam, Saipem, Ansaldo Energia, Danieli, Aruba, and TIM, to discuss investments in digital technologies and materials processing.
