Italy and Bangladesh deepen migration cooperation in third bilateral talks

On 4 August 2026, Italy’s foreign ministry secretary‑general Riccardo Guariglia co‑chaired the third round of Italy‑Bangladesh bilateral consultations at the Farnesina with Bangladesh’s foreign ministry secretary‑general Ambassador Asad Alam Siam. The meeting, held ahead of the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations, reaffirmed the partnership and focused on strengthening migration cooperation. Both sides pledged to combat irregular migration and human‑trafficking, and to expand regular migration channels under Italy’s “Flussi” decree and the 2025 migration memorandum.

The dialogue also covered broader economic, trade, investment, defence, security, cultural and higher‑education cooperation, and exchanged views on regional issues in the Indo‑Pacific, South Asia and Bangladesh’s relations with the European Union.
