Italy and Kenya strengthen police and security cooperation

A Kenyan delegation, led by National Police Service Inspector General Douglas Kanja Kirocho, met with Italian police officials in Rome to strengthen bilateral security cooperation. The meetings included discussions with Deputy Chief of Police Raffaele Grassi and Rome Police Commissioner Roberto Massucci.

The visit focused on enhancing the organizational and operational capacities of Kenya’s National Police Service. Key areas of interest for training include public order management, large-scale event security, urban safety, and the protection of critical infrastructure. These priorities are particularly urgent for Kenya ahead of its upcoming general elections and the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

Additionally, the delegation sought expertise to support the newly established Nairobi Metropolitan Police Unit. The Italian State Police expressed full support for sharing specialized expertise, including potential operational collaboration in combating terrorism and organized crime.
