Italian communities celebrate Columbus Day with parades and new educational pact
Italian and Italian-American communities are marking Columbus Day through various cultural and educational initiatives. In New York, the 82nd Columbus Day Parade featured numerous groups, including the Borgetto Club and a delegation from La Stampa USA, celebrating Italian heritage and identity.
During the celebrations in New York, former footballer Roberto Baggio was honored at the Columbus Day Gala as the ‘Greatest Italian Soccer Player of All Time’. The event, organized by the Italian Cultural Association of New York, celebrated his legendary career and connection to the community.
In Rome, the Italian Ministry of Education and Merit (MIM) signed a three-year protocol with the National Italian American Foundation (NIAF). The agreement aims to integrate the history of Italian emigration to the Americas into school curricula, starting from 1880. The initiative seeks to promote knowledge of Italian values, language, and the ‘Made in Italy’ brand through educational tools such as forums, webinars, and seminars.
Meanwhile, in Genoa, the city held its traditional Colombian Ceremony to honor Christopher Columbus, focusing on the theme ‘Navigators of the Future’ to encourage youth to embrace new challenges and exploration.
