Italy and San Marino advance parental leave reforms
In Italy, a flexible provision now allows mothers to take the full five‑month maternity leave after childbirth, provided health risks are absent. The entitlement is governed by article 1, comma 485 of law n. 145 (2018) and requires a specific medical certificate as outlined in INPS circular 148/2019.
San Marino is set to approve a new family‑support law that extends parental leave. The bill, slated for a council vote in September, adds three months at 80 % of salary, followed by reduced payments up to the first year. Secretary of State for Justice Stefano Canti confirmed the timetable, while mothers such as Margherita Casali urged swift implementation, calling for additional measures on housing and rent support.
