Italy and Switzerland conclude Extramuro 2026 emergency exercise

The second edition of ‘Extramuro 2026’, a joint training program between Italy and Switzerland, has concluded in Erba, Italy. Organized through a collaboration between the Lombardy Region and the Canton of Ticino, the exercise focused on civil protection and the management of cross-border emergencies.

Running from October 1 to October 9, the initiative included training activities and field exercises in locations such as Pollegio, Erba, Merone, and Pusiano. The program aimed to strengthen mutual knowledge of operational procedures and intervention systems to improve joint response capabilities during crises that cross national borders.

The exercise involved various entities, including the Lombardy Region's Directorate General for Security and Civil Protection, the Fire Brigade, Areu Lombardia, the Province of Como, and the CCPD Police and Customs Cooperation Center in Chiasso. Regional Councilor for Security and Civil Protection Romano La Russa noted that the program provides a concrete way to harmonize civil protection systems that operate in close proximity but utilize different procedures.
