Italy and US collaborate on autism inclusion and accessibility

Efforts to improve inclusion and quality of life for individuals with autism are being highlighted through international collaboration and local educational initiatives. In New York, a seminar titled “New Horizons for the Inclusion and Well-being of People with Autism” was hosted at the Italian Trade Agency. This initiative, promoted by Italy’s Minister for Disabilities Alessandra Locatelli and The Center for Discovery, stems from a memorandum of understanding signed in February to share best practices between Italy and the United States.

In Italy, the “Art for all: free to experiment” project is focusing on cultural accessibility. On September 14, a training day titled “Accessible Museums: Autism, Art, and Archaeology” will be held at the Museo Civico e Diocesano d’Arte Sacra San Pietro and the Museo Archeologico – Palazzo Pretorio in Colle Val d’Elsa. Supported by the Fondazione Antico Ospedale Santa Maria della Scala and various academic and social partners, the program aims to provide museum staff with tools to design accessible paths for people on the autism spectrum.
