Italy approves DL Carburanti decree to support fuel costs and industry
The Italian Senate has approved the 'DL Carburanti' decree, a legislative package designed to address rising fuel costs and support strategic industrial sectors. The measures include targeted excise duty cuts on diesel and biodiesel to assist distributors.
To support the transport sector, the government is implementing nearly 400 million euros in tax credits for companies involved in freight, passenger transport, and car rentals. Additionally, the decree provides 100.5 million euros in funding for the former Ilva steelworks (Acciaierie d'Italia) to ensure operational continuity during its sale process, alongside new environmental authorizations for strategic sites.
The package also includes relief for the fishing industry. A 20% tax credit for fuel purchases made by fishing vessels during March, April, and May 2026 has been made operational to mitigate the economic pressure caused by high fuel prices on coastal communities.
