Italy approves reimbursement for Guselkumab for bowel diseases

Italy has approved reimbursement for two new therapeutic indications of Guselkumab, a selective IL-23 inhibitor developed by Johnson & Johnson. The drug is used to treat inflammatory bowel diseases, specifically Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.

Medical experts noted that Guselkumab, a monoclonal antibody targeting P19 or interleukin-23, has demonstrated high efficacy and safety in registry studies. It is available in both subcutaneous and intravenous formulations. Experts highlighted that approximately one percent of the Italian population suffers from chronic inflammatory bowel diseases, requiring significant management from the national health system and medical providers.
