Italy arrests ex-zooprofilattico commissioner and a fake priest in separate fraud cases

Italian authorities seized more than €175,000 from former zooprofilattico institute commissioner Salvatore Seminara and two senior officials, accusing them of aggravated fraud for unlawfully obtaining public funds between 2022 and 2025. The money was allegedly used to increase their personal compensation and award contracts.

In a separate case, police arrested a 50‑year‑old Sicilian who posed as a Roman prelate to swindle a Rimini parish priest out of about €500. The suspect, linked to multiple alleged scams targeting the elderly in northern Italy, was caught red‑handed after the priest alerted law‑enforcement.

Both incidents highlight intensified police actions against fraud in Italy, targeting misuse of public resources and scams on vulnerable individuals.
