Italy: Attempted fuel station theft and regional wildfires reported
In Italy, emergency services have responded to separate incidents involving attempted crime and wildfires.
In the province between Corato and Bisceglie, security personnel from Metronotte prevented an attempted theft at a fuel station during the night. Two individuals allegedly attempted to force an automatic cash machine using burglary tools. Although the suspects fled via rural roads when confronted by a patrol, the alarm system successfully alerted authorities, and no significant damage or loss was reported. Carabinieri are currently reviewing surveillance footage to identify the suspects.
In the Teramo province, firefighters and volunteers have been battling multiple vegetation and forest fires. A significant blaze covering approximately two hectares in the Varano area of Valle San Giovanni required the deployment of ground teams and aerial support, including the Erickson S-64 ‘Cochise’ and the ‘Lupo Grigio’ helicopters. While the fire was contained before reaching nearby homes, monitoring and cleanup operations remain ongoing. Additional smaller fires were reported in Penna Sant'Andrea and Montefino.
