Italy attracts German tourists and retirees with seasonal benefits
Italy offers diverse opportunities for travelers and retirees, particularly those from Germany. During the winter months, the country experiences lower tourist volumes and reduced prices for flights and hotels. While northern and inland regions can be cold and snowy, southern coastal areas like Naples and Rome maintain milder temperatures, typically ranging between 10°C and 15°C.
For German retirees, Italy serves as a popular destination for relocation due to its EU membership, which simplifies the residency process. According to the Deutsche Rentenversicherung 2025 Pension Atlas, Italy ranks eighth among countries receiving German pension payments, with over 8,000 pensions paid to German citizens there in the previous year. Benefits for retirees include the ability to maintain statutory health insurance and receive full pension amounts without deductions, provided they register with the local municipality for stays exceeding three months.
