Italy: Authorities crack down on food fraud and vendor irregularities

Authorities in Italy have conducted separate inspections targeting food safety and regulatory compliance in the Osimo and Palermo regions.

In the Val Musone area near Osimo, Carabinieri officers inspected a local bar and discovered that the legal representative was selling frozen bakery and pastry products while misrepresenting them as fresh. The individual was reported to the judicial authorities for food fraud and received administrative fines exceeding 1,000 euros.

In Palermo, Municipal Police conducted a blitz at the Foro Italico area, a popular location for street food vendors. The operation identified irregularities involving two vendors, including the unauthorized occupation of public land and sidewalks, lack of proper authorization, and missing HACCP food safety documentation. Officers seized equipment and goods, issuing nearly 5,000 euros in administrative fines and referring several violations to the judicial authorities.
