Italian regional data shows varying car insurance and living costs
Recent reports highlight significant regional variations in car insurance (RC auto) premiums and the cost of living across Italy as of August 2026.
In the insurance sector, the average national premium stands at 623.25 euros. Regional data shows diverse trends: Abruzzo has seen a 9.1% annual decrease to 541.66 euros, though Pescara remains the most expensive province in the region at 568.17 euros. In Veneto, Verona is the most affordable province with an average premium of 489.75 euros, significantly lower than the regional average. Conversely, in Sicily, Enna remains the most economical province at 486.04 euros, despite a 2.7% annual price increase.
Regarding the cost of living, data from the Unione Nazionale Consumatori and Istat indicates that Benevento has the lowest impact of inflation on family budgets, with a 2.5% increase. In contrast, cities like Rimini face much higher costs, with inflation leading to an estimated annual increase of 1,128 euros for an average family.
Historical context from Ivass also notes that while insurance companies saw reduced claims during the pandemic, the resulting savings were not fully passed on to consumers in the form of lower premiums.
