Italy automotive market: LPG sales surpass electric vehicles in July 2026

In July 2026, the Italian automotive market showed significant shifts in fuel preferences and brand dominance. LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) vehicle registrations rose to 13,301 units, surpassing electric vehicle (BEV) sales, which totaled 7,368 units.

In the LPG segment, the Renault Group dominated the top rankings. The Dacia Sandero took first place with 4,553 units, followed by the Dacia Duster and the Renault Clio. Other notable models in the LPG top ten included the Renault Captur and the DR 5.0.

In the electric vehicle market, BYD emerged as the monthly leader with the Dolphin Surf, recording 572 registrations. This allowed BYD to overtake Leapmotor, whose T03 model previously led the segment. Notably, Tesla was absent from the July top ten list in Italy. Despite the monthly shift, Leapmotor maintained the highest cumulative sales for the first seven months of 2026, followed by the Dacia Spring and the Tesla Model Y.
