Italy automotive and two-wheel markets show growth in September 2026

The Italian automotive and two-wheel markets showed significant growth in September 2026. The car market saw a 9.9% increase in registrations, reaching 139,356 units. Electrified vehicles are driving this trend, with hybrids accounting for over 50% of the market and pure electric vehicles (BEV) rising to a 7.6% share. Fiat remains a dominant player, with the Fiat Pandina leading sales.

The two-wheel market also grew by 7.86%, with 33,061 vehicles registered. This growth was led by scooters, which saw an 11.21% increase, particularly in the accessible sub-250 cc segment. Motorcycles also returned to growth after two months of decline.

Despite the growth, challenges remain regarding the electric transition. A PwC study indicates that Italy is lagging behind the EU average in electric vehicle adoption, with BEV registrations at 8% compared to the EU average of 21%. Infrastructure and charging availability continue to be significant hurdles for widespread adoption.
