Italy bans Adriatic trawl fishing from late July to mid‑September 2026

The Italian Ministry of Agriculture has issued a decree imposing a mandatory fishing halt for vessels using trawl, rapid‑sweep and twin‑trawl nets in the Adriatic Sea between Trieste and Ancona. The stop runs from 31 July to 13 September 2026, affecting the local fleet and the port of Cesenatico.

Cold­iretti Pesca warned the measure comes amid sector anxiety over the upcoming multi‑year financial framework, reforms to the Common Fisheries Policy, rising energy costs and climate impacts. A second, overlapping suspension runs from 16 August to 29 September for the stretch from San Benedetto del Tronto to Bari, with additional closures in October for other Mediterranean zones. The ban aims to foster stock recovery and sustainable resource management in line with EU and national fishing regulations.
