Italy beats Colombia 4-3 in WBSC Premier12 qualifier
The Italian national baseball team secured a 4-3 comeback victory against Colombia in their opening match of the WBSC Premier12 2027 qualifying tournament held in Barcelona, Spain.
After an early 1-0 lead by Italy in the third inning, Colombia responded in the fourth with a three-run rally to take a 3-1 advantage. The game remained deadlocked until the bottom of the eighth inning, when Italy scored three runs to reclaim the lead. The decisive moment came via a line-drive double by Gabriele Angioi, following a defensive error on a bunt by Gonzalez that allowed Mineo and Wong to score.
Claudio Scotti earned the save by pitching a scoreless ninth inning. The Italian squad, led by manager Francisco Cervelli in his debut, is scheduled to face Spain in their next qualifying match on Saturday.
