Italy beats Czech Republic but loses to Australia at World Softball Championships

The Italian women's softball team opened the group stage of the World Softball Championships in Prague with a 10‑2 victory over host nation the Czech Republic at Svoboda Park. The win, driven by strong performances from players such as Toniolo, Piancastelli and Dayton, kept Italy in contention for the Saturday knockout matches.

Two days later Italy faced Australia in another group‑stage clash. Despite recording more hits (11 to 7), Italy could not convert its opportunities and fell 6‑4 to the Australians, who were more effective in capitalising on chances. Head coach Montvidas emphasized the need for Italy to defeat Cuba in the upcoming match on 19 June to secure a place in the tournament’s final round.

The outcomes leave Italy’s path to the championship dependent on the result of the crucial Italy‑Cuba game.
